The Vair-9009 by Vasthi Instruments is an online, real-time beta attenuation particulate monitor for continuous ambient air quality monitoring (CAAQMS). It measures particulate matter collected on glass fibre filter tape with a one-hour time resolution, using in-line sampling geometry that measures beta attenuation across the filter media while sampling—supporting uninterrupted 24/7 operation with strong sensitivity and temporal resolution.
A unique in-situ sampling technique holds the beta measurement at a near-constant temperature above ambient conditions. This helps prevent loss of semi-volatile particulate and excess moisture in the sample stream, reducing measurement error without costly Nafion dryers, flow splitters, or air-conditioned shelters.
The instrument is housed in a lightweight equipment shelter with an easily removable pump box—ideal where permanent structures or walk-in shelters are not available. No major component exceeds 40 lb (18 kg), so a single technician can carry, install, and commission the system in minutes, with lower power consumption and simpler maintenance.
